From The Bible
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to-day, and for ever.
(Hebrews 13:8)
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ...
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(Romans 8:35, 37–39)
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
(Jeremiah 29:11–13)
... I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
(John 8:12 I)
As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
(John 9:5)
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. ...
Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
(II Timothy 1:7, 9, 10)
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
(Ephesians 3:20)
... be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
(Ephesians 6:10 be)
I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
(John 12:46)
When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. ...
... ¶ And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
(Matthew 8:1, 23–27)
¶ And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us. And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it. But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country.
(Matthew 9:27–31)
¶ And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people. Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people. And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judæa, and throughout all the region round about.
(Luke 7:11–17)
When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death: ...
But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus. The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas. Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. ¶ When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. ¶ Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. ...
And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him. ...
Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. ...
... ¶ Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; ...
Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
(Matthew 27:1, 20–26, 31, 45, 50, 51, 54)
Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her. ¶ Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. ...
... ¶ But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. ¶ And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. ...
... ¶ And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
(John 20:18, 19, 24–28, 30, 31)
... ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
(Colossians 2:10 ye)
Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually. Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth; ...
Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he commanded to a thousand generations;
(I Chronicles 16:11, 12, 15)
... we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
(I John 4:14 we)
I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
(John 12:46)
... Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
(John 14:27 Let)
SCIENCE AND HEALTH WITH KEY TO THE SCRIPTURES by MARY BAKER EDDY
There is no power apart from God. Omnipotence has all-power, and to acknowledge any other power is to dishonor God. The humble Nazarene overthrew the supposition that sin, sickness, and death have power. He proved them powerless. It should have humbled the pride of the priests, when they saw the demonstration of Christianity excel the influence of their dead faith and ceremonies.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 228:25)
... God and His Christ, bringing harmony to earth.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 561:15 God)
Christ illustrates that blending with God, his divine Principle, which gives man dominion over all the earth.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 316:21)
Truth is God's remedy for error of every kind, and Truth destroys only what is untrue. Hence the fact that, to-day, as yesterday, Christ casts out evils and heals the sick.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 142:31)
Life is, like Christ, “the same yesterday, and to-day, and forever.”
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 249:18–19)
The law of Christ, or Truth, makes all things possible to Spirit; but the so-called laws of matter would render Spirit of no avail, and demand obedience to materialistic codes, thus departing from the basis of one God, one lawmaker. To suppose that God constitutes laws of inharmony is a mistake; discords have no support from nature or divine law, however much is said to the contrary.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 182:32)
Christ presents the indestructible man, whom Spirit creates, constitutes, and governs. Christ illustrates that blending with God, his divine Principle, which gives man dominion over all the earth.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 316:20)
It was the living, palpitating presence of Christ, Truth, which healed the sick.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 351:13)
... it is Christ, Truth, who destroys these evils, and so proves their nothingness.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 347:24 it)
Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness. The Christ is incorporeal, spiritual, — yea, the divine image and likeness, dispelling the illusions of the senses; the Way, the Truth, and the Life, healing the sick and casting out evils, destroying sin, disease, and death. As Paul says: “There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” The corporeal man Jesus was human.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 332:9 Christ)
Christ expresses God's spiritual, eternal nature.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 333:9–10)
X. Jesus demonstrated Christ; he proved that Christ is the divine idea of God — the Holy Ghost, or Comforter, revealing the divine Principle, Love, and leading into all truth.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 332:19)
Christ is the offspring of Spirit, and spiritual existence shows that Spirit creates neither a wicked nor a mortal man, lapsing into sin, sickness, and death.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 540:1)
Jesus instructed his disciples whereby to heal the sick through Mind instead of matter. He knew that the philosophy, Science, and proof of Christianity were in Truth, casting out all inharmony.
In Latin the word rendered disciple signifies student; and the word indicates that the power of healing was not a supernatural gift to those learners, but the result of their cultivated spiritual understanding of the divine Science, which their Master demonstrated by healing the sick and sinning. Hence the universal application of his saying: “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me [understand ...
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 271:7–18 (to understand))
It is indeed adequate to unclasp the hold and to destroy disease, sin, and death.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 412:14)
Christ's Christianity is the chain of scientific being reappearing in all ages, maintaining its obvious correspondence with the Scriptures and uniting all periods in the design of God. Neither emasculation, illusion, nor insubordination exists in divine Science.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 271:1)
... Jesus, who showed his students the power of Mind by changing water into wine, and taught them how to handle serpents unharmed, to heal the sick and cast out evils in proof of the supremacy of Mind.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 321:31 Jesus)
Only by understanding that there is but one power, — not two powers, matter and Mind, — are scientific and logical conclusions reached. Few deny the hypothesis that intelligence, apart from man and matter, governs the universe; and it is generally admitted that this intelligence is the eternal Mind or divine Principle, Love.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 270:7 Only)
Spirit is symbolized by strength, presence, and power, and also by holy thoughts, winged with Love. These angels of His presence, which have the holiest charge, abound in the spiritual atmosphere of Mind, and consequently reproduce their own characteristics.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 512:8–13)
Christ, as the spiritual or true idea of God, comes now as of old, preaching the gospel to the poor, healing the sick, and casting out evils. ...
If Christian Science takes away the popular gods, — sin, sickness, and death, — it is Christ, Truth, who destroys these evils, and so proves their nothingness.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 347:14–17, 23)
The physical healing of Christian Science results now, as in Jesus' time, from the operation of divine Principle, before which sin and disease lose their reality in human consciousness and disappear as naturally and as necessarily as darkness gives place to light and sin to reformation. Now, as then, these mighty works are not supernatural, but supremely natural. They are the sign of Immanuel, or “God with us,” — a divine influence ever present in human consciousness and repeating itself, coming now as was promised aforetime,
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. xi:9–18)
The apostle says that the mission of Christ is to “destroy the works of the devil.” Truth destroys falsity and error, for light and darkness cannot dwell together. Light extinguishes the darkness, and the Scripture declares that there is “no night there.” To Truth there is no error, — all is Truth. To infinite Spirit there is no matter, — all is Spirit, divine Principle and its idea.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 474:29)
Our Master fully and finally demonstrated divine Science in his victory over death and the grave. Jesus' deed was for the enlightenment of men and for the salvation of the whole world from sin, sickness, and death. ... Three days after his bodily burial he talked with his disciples. The persecutors had failed to hide immortal Truth and Love in a sepulchre.
Glory be to God, and peace to the struggling hearts! Christ hath rolled away the stone from the door of human hope and faith, and through the revelation and demonstration of life in God, hath elevated them to possible at-one-ment with the spiritual idea of man and his divine Principle, Love.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 45:6–10, 13–21)
... God and His Christ, bringing harmony to earth.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 561:15 God)
As mortals reach, through knowledge of Christian Science, a higher sense, they will seek to learn, not from matter, but from the divine Principle, God, how to demonstrate the Christ, Truth, as the healing and saving power.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 285:27)
Throughout all generations both before and after the Christian era, the Christ, as the spiritual idea, — the reflection of God, — has come with some measure of power and grace to all prepared to receive Christ, Truth.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 333:19–23)
The law of Christ, or Truth, makes all things possible to Spirit; but the so-called ...
