Healing light of the Christ and Christian Science

January 24th, From The Bible

Isa. 60:1

Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.

Eph. 5:14

Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

John 8:1, 2 2nd and, 12 saying (to me), 12 2nd shall

Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.

... and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. ...

... saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me ... shall have the light of life.

John 12:44 He, 46

... He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me. ...

I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

John 9:1–4 (to :), 5, 6 (to 1st ,), 6 3rd he, 7 (to 3rd ,), 7 He

And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: ...

As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. When he had thus spoken, ... he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, ... He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

John 9:15 (to 1st .), 24 and, 25, 28 (to 1st ,), 34 3rd And, 35 (to ;), 35 2nd he, 38, 39

Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. ...

... and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner. He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see. ...

Then they reviled him, ...

... And they cast him out. Jesus heard that they had cast him out; ... he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? ...

And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him. ¶ And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.

Matt. 5:1 (to 1st ,), 2 he, 10, 11 (to 2nd ,), 11 2nd and, 14, 16

And seeing the multitudes, ...

... he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, ...

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, ... and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. ...

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. ...

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Matt. 15:32 (to 5th ,), 34 How, 36 (to 3rd ,), 37, 38

¶ Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, ...

... How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes. ...

And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, ...

And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full. And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.

Matt. 9:8

But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men.

Matt. 14:34 (to And), 34–36 2nd they

¶ And ... they came into the land of Gennesaret. And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased; And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.

Matt. 9:20–22

¶ And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

John 5:19

Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

John 14:10 3rd the, 12 (to 1st ;), 13 2nd that

... the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. ...

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; ...

... that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

John 15:8

Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

Matt. 10:1 (to 2nd he), 5 commanded (to 3rd ,), 8

And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he ...

... commanded them, saying, ...

Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

Mark 8:34

¶ And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Matt. 9:35

And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

Luke 6:31 as

... as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.

SH xi:22, 27–29 (to 2nd ,), 30–1 which; xii:6–7

When God called the author to proclaim His Gospel to this age, there came also the charge to plant and water His vineyard.

... In 1881, she opened the Massachusetts Metaphysical College in Boston, under the seal of the Commonwealth, ... which enabled her to get this institution chartered for medical purposes. ...

During seven years over four thousand students were taught by the author in this College.

SH 107:1–3; 108:30 (only, to 1st ,); 109:1 led, 16–22

IN the year 1866, I discovered the Christ Science or divine laws of Life, Truth, and Love, and named my discovery Christian Science. ...

My discovery, ... led up to my demonstration of the proposition that Mind is All and matter is naught as the leading factor in Mind-science. ...

... I knew the Principle of all harmonious Mind-action to be God, and that cures were produced in primitive Christian healing by holy, uplifting faith; but I must know the Science of this healing, and I won my way to absolute conclusions through divine revelation, reason, and demonstration.

SH xi:9–14

The physical healing of Christian Science results now, as in Jesus’ time, from the operation of divine Principle, before which sin and disease lose their reality in human consciousness and disappear as naturally and as necessarily as darkness gives place to light and sin to reformation.

SH 313:23–26

Jesus of Nazareth was the most scientific man that ever trod the globe. He plunged beneath the material surface of things, and found the spiritual cause.

SH 110:25

Jesus demonstrated the power of Christian Science to heal mortal minds and bodies. But this power was lost sight of, and must again be spiritually discerned, taught, and demonstrated according to Christ’s command, with “signs following.” Its Science must be apprehended by as many as believe on Christ and spiritually understand Truth.

SH 135:26–2

Christianity as Jesus taught it was not a creed, nor a system of ceremonies, nor a special gift from a ritualistic Jehovah; but it was the demonstration of divine Love casting out error and healing the sick, not merely in the name of Christ, or Truth, but in demonstration of Truth, as must be the case in the cycles of divine light.

Jesus established his church and maintained his mission on a spiritual foundation of Christ-healing.

SH 332:9–11 Christ, 14–15 the

Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness. ... the Way, the Truth, and the Life, healing the sick and casting out evils, destroying sin, disease, and death.

SH 25:31

The divinity of the Christ was made manifest in the humanity of Jesus.

SH 316:2

From him mortals may learn how to escape from evil. The real man being linked by Science to his Maker, mortals need only turn from sin and lose sight of mortal selfhood to find Christ, the real man and his relation to God, and to recognize the divine sonship. Christ, Truth, was demonstrated through Jesus to prove the power of Spirit over the flesh, — to show that Truth is made manifest by its effects upon the human mind and body, healing sickness and destroying sin.

SH 273:24

Jesus walked on the waves, fed the multitude, healed the sick, and raised the dead in direct opposition to material laws. His acts were the demonstration of Science, overcoming the false claims of material sense or law.

SH 210:11–16

Knowing that Soul and its attributes were forever manifested through man, the Master healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, feet to the lame, thus bringing to light the scientific action of the divine Mind on human minds and bodies and giving a better understanding of Soul and salvation.

SH 138:11–15

He showed that diseases were cast out neither by corporeality, by materia medica, nor by hygiene, but by the divine Spirit, casting out the errors of mortal mind. The supremacy of Spirit was the foundation on which Jesus built.

SH 132:14–16, 20–24

The Pharisees of old thrust the spiritual idea and the man who lived it out of their synagogues, and retained their materialistic beliefs about God. ... To-day, as of yore, unconscious of the reappearing of the spiritual idea, blind belief shuts the door upon it, and condemns the cure of the sick and sinning if it is wrought on any but a material and a doctrinal theory.

SH 273:16–24

The so-called laws of matter and of medical science have never made mortals whole, harmonious, and immortal. Man is harmonious when governed by Soul. Hence the importance of understanding the truth of being, which reveals the laws of spiritual existence.

God never ordained a material law to annul the spiritual law. If there were such a material law, it would oppose the supremacy of Spirit, God, and impugn the wisdom of the creator.

SH 219:6

In mathematics, we do not multiply when we should subtract, and then say the product is correct. No more can we say in Science that muscles give strength, that nerves give pain or pleasure, or that matter governs, and then expect that the result will be harmony. Not muscles, nerves, nor bones, but mortal mind makes the whole body “sick, and the whole heart faint;” whereas divine Mind heals.

SH 162:4–5, 7

Christian Science brings to the body the sunlight of Truth, which invigorates and purifies. ... It changes the secretions, expels humors, dissolves tumors, relaxes rigid muscles, restores carious bones to soundness. The effect of this Science is to stir the human mind to a change of base, on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind.

SH 337:29–4 Subject (to ;)

... Subject sickness, sin, and death to the rule of health and holiness in Christian Science, and you ascertain that this Science is demonstrably true, for it heals the sick and sinning as no other system can. Christian Science, rightly understood, leads to eternal harmony. It brings to light the only living and true God and man as made in His likeness; ...

SH 256:2–7

Advancing to a higher plane of action, thought rises from the material sense to the spiritual, from the scholastic to the inspirational, and from the mortal to the immortal. All things are created spiritually. Mind, not matter, is the creator.

SH 170:24

The age seems ready to approach this subject, to ponder somewhat the supremacy of Spirit, and at least to touch the hem of Truth’s garment.

SH 371:27

The necessity for uplifting the race is father to the fact that Mind can do it; for Mind can impart purity instead of impurity, strength instead of weakness, and health instead of disease. Truth is an alterative in the entire system, and can make it “every whit whole.”

SH 25:22–31

Though demonstrating his control over sin and disease, the great Teacher by no means relieved others from giving the requisite proofs of their own piety. He worked for their guidance, that they might demonstrate this power as he did and understand its divine Principle. Implicit faith in the Teacher and all the emotional love we can bestow on him, will never alone make us imitators of him. We must go and do likewise, else we are not improving the great blessings which our Master worked and suffered to bestow upon us.

SH 138:18–22, 27–30

Christians are under as direct orders now, as they were then, to be Christlike, to possess the Christ-spirit, to follow the Christ-example, and to heal the sick as well as the sinning. ...

Our Master said to every follower: “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature! . . . Heal the sick! . . . Love thy neighbor as thyself!”

SH 37:16–17

When will Jesus’ professed followers learn to emulate him in all his ways and to imitate his mighty works?

SH 326:3–5

If we wish to follow Christ, Truth, it must be in the way of God’s appointing. Jesus said, “He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also.”

SH 367:17, 27

A Christian Scientist occupies the place at this period of which Jesus spoke to his disciples, when he said: “Ye are the salt of the earth.” “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” Let us watch, work, and pray that this salt lose not its saltness, and that this light be not hid, but radiate and glow into noontide glory.

... I long to see the consummation of my hope, namely, the student’s higher attainments in this line of light.

Hymn. 589

Through pure love, God has commanded / Healing light to shine on earth. / And in our hearts there beams the same love— / Let the love of Christ shine bright.

REFRAIN / Rise and shine, your light has come, / God the everlasting sun. / Christ has given us this light— / Radiate God’s glory.

Jesus’ grace revealed God’s goodness, / Giving hope to all the world. / Love is the light that burns within us— / Let the life of Christ shine bright. / / REFRAIN / God has made us in Love’s image, / Perfect, Christlike, pure, and free. / We all reflect this strength and power— / Let the mind of Christ shine bright. / / REFRAIN / We are one with God forever, / One with Love eternally— / A perfect bond that can’t be broken— / Let the truth of Christ shine bright. / / REFRAIN

Hymn. 600

Who was that man in Galilee, / Healing and teaching beside the sea? / What was the power that made him strong? / How can we learn to sing his song?

He told us, / I am the light of the world, / I am the light of the world, / So follow me and shine out / For I am the light of the world!

Why are we here, and who are we? / What is his purpose for you and me? / Our little light seems small and dim / Next to the blaze that comes from him!

He told us, / You are the salt of the earth, / You are the light of the world. / So follow me and shine out / For you are the light of the world!

Christ is the light with which we shine, / Lit from within by this love divine. / Step out with courage, dare to go, / Give from the heart the love you know.

He told us, / We are the salt of the earth, / We are the light of the world. / We follow him and shine out / For Christ is the light of the world!

Hymn. 574

Shepherd, show me how to go / O’er the hillside steep, / How to gather, how to sow,— / How to feed Thy sheep; / I will listen for Thy voice, / Lest my footsteps stray; / I will follow and rejoice / All the rugged way.

Thou wilt bind the stubborn will, / Wound the callous breast, / Make self-righteousness be still, / Break earth’s stupid rest. / Strangers on a barren shore, / Lab’ring long and lone, / We would enter by the door, / And Thou know’st Thine own;

So, when day grows dark and cold, / Tear or triumph harms, / Lead Thy lambkins to the fold, / Take them in Thine arms; / Feed the hungry, heal the heart, / Till the morning’s beam; / White as wool, ere they depart, / Shepherd, wash them clean.
