From The Bible

Ps. 118:24

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Ps. 68:19 (to 2nd ,)

Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, ...

Ps. 103:3, 4 2nd who, 7

Deut. 5:1 (to 4th ,), 2, 5 saying, 6

And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, ...

Deut. 8:2 (to 1st ,), 3 (to 3rd ,), 3 that

And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, ...

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, ... that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.

Neh. 9:6 (to 1st ;), 9, 15 (to 2nd ,), 16, 17 neither (to ;)

Thou, even thou, art Lord alone; ...

And didst see the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and heardest their cry by the Red sea; ...

And gavest them bread from heaven for their hunger, and broughtest forth water for them out of the rock for their thirst, ...

But they and our fathers dealt proudly, and hardened their necks, and hearkened not to thy commandments,

... neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou didst among them; ...

Ps. 78:19, 22, 38 (to :)

Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? ...

But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: ...

Ps. 145:8, 9, 18

The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. The Lord isgood to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. ...

The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. ...

And when the tempter came to him, he said, ... command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. ...

... ¶ And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

... when thou prayest, ... pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. ...

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, ...

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. ...

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. ...

... for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Matt. 19:23 (to 2nd ,), 24–26 It

¶ Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, ...

... It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

SCIENCE AND HEALTH WITH KEY TO THE SCRIPTURES by MARY BAKER EDDY

SH vii:1–2

TO those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings.

SH 410:9–12 (to ;)

The Scriptures say, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God,” showing that Truth is the actual life of man; ...

SH 232:9–10 (to ;)

Scripture informs us that “with God all things are possible,” — all good is possible to Spirit; ...

SH 507:3–6

Spirit duly feeds and clothes every object, as it appears in the line of spiritual creation, thus tenderly expressing the fatherhood and motherhood of God.

SH 2:4

Are we benefited by praying? Yes, the desire which goes forth hungering after righteousness is blessed of our Father, and it does not return unto us void.

SH 135:17

There is to-day danger of repeating the offence of the Jews by limiting the Holy One of Israel and asking: “Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?” What cannot God do?

SH 133:9–10

In the wilderness, streams flowed from the rock, and manna fell from the sky.

SH 174:17

The thunder of Sinai and the Sermon on the Mount are pursuing and will overtake the ages, rebuking in their course all error and proclaiming the kingdom of heaven on earth. Truth is revealed. It needs only to be practised.

SH 224:28–32; 225:1 What

Truth brings the elements of liberty. On its banner is the Soul-inspired motto, “Slavery is abolished.” The power of God brings deliverance to the captive. No power can withstand divine Love. What is this supposed power, which opposes itself to God? ... What is it that binds man with iron shackles to sin, sickness, and death? Whatever enslaves man is opposed to the divine government. Truth makes man free.

SH 70:1–5

MORTAL existence is an enigma. Every day is a mystery. The testimony of the corporeal senses cannot inform us what is real and what is delusive, but the revelations of Christian Science unlock the treasures of Truth.

SH 150:4–8

To-day the healing power of Truth is widely demonstrated as an immanent, eternal Science, instead of a phenomenal exhibition. Its appearing is the coming anew of the gospel of “on earth peace, good-will toward men.”

SH 142:31

Truth is God’s remedy for error of every kind, and Truth destroys only what is untrue. Hence the fact that, to-day, as yesterday, Christ casts out evils and heals the sick.

SH 259:6

In divine Science, man is the true image of God. The divine nature was best expressed in Christ Jesus, who threw upon mortals the truer reflection of God and lifted their lives higher than their poor thought-models would allow, — thoughts which presented man as fallen, sick, sinning, and dying. The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea, — perfect God and perfect man, — as the basis of thought and demonstration.

SH 46:5–7

In the walk to Emmaus, Jesus was known to his friends by the words, which made their hearts burn within them, and by the breaking of bread.

SH 33:6–8

Their bread indeed came down from heaven. It was the great truth of spiritual being, healing the sick and casting out error.

SH 17:4

Give us this day our daily bread; / Give us grace for to-day; feed the famished affections;

SH 530:5

In divine Science, man is sustained by God, the divine Principle of being. The earth, at God’s command, brings forth food for man’s use. Knowing this, Jesus once said, “Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink,” — presuming not on the prerogative of his creator, but recognizing God, the Father and Mother of all, as able to feed and clothe man as He doth the lilies.

SH 40:25–28; 41:6

Our heavenly Father, divine Love, demands that all men should follow the example of our Master and his apostles and not merely worship his personality. ...

... Like our Master, we must depart from material sense into the spiritual sense of being.

SH 180:25–27

When man is governed by God, the ever-present Mind who understands all things, man knows that with God all things are possible.

SH 182:32–1 (to ;)

The law of Christ, or Truth, makes all things possible to Spirit; ...

SH 325:7

Jesus gave the true idea of being, which results in infinite blessings to mortals.

SH 206:15–16 (to ,), 17 Spirit

In the scientific relation of God to man, we find that whatever blesses one blesses all, ... Spirit, not matter, being the source of supply.

SH 60:29 (only, to ,)

Soul has infinite resources with which to bless mankind, ...

SH 234:4

Whatever inspires with wisdom, Truth, or Love — be it song, sermon, or Science — blesses the human family with crumbs of comfort from Christ’s table, feeding the hungry and giving living waters to the thirsty.

SH 566:1–9

As the children of Israel were guided triumphantly through the Red Sea, the dark ebbing and flowing tides of human fear, — as they were led through the wilderness, walking wearily through the great desert of human hopes, and anticipating the promised joy, — so shall the spiritual idea guide all right desires in their passage from sense to Soul, from a material sense of existence to the spiritual, up to the glory prepared for them who love God.

SH 42:1–2 (to ,), 19–21

Jesus’ life proved, divinely and scientifically, that God is Love, ...

... The belief that man has existence or mind separate from God is a dying error. This error Jesus met with divine Science and proved its nothingness.

SH 91:5–7

Let us rid ourselves of the belief that man is separated from God, and obey only the divine Principle, Life and Love.

SH 248:29; 249:5–10

Let unselfishness, goodness, mercy, justice, health, holiness, love — the kingdom of heaven — reign within us, and sin, disease, and death will diminish until they finally disappear. ...

Let the “male and female” of God’s creating appear. Let us feel the divine energy of Spirit, bringing us into newness of life and recognizing no mortal nor material power as able to destroy. Let us rejoice that we are subject to the divine “powers that be.” Such is the true Science of being.

SH 227:23–26

Jesus marked out the way. Citizens of the world, accept the “glorious liberty of the children of God,” and be free! This is your divine right.

SH 12:31

In divine Science, where prayers are mental, all may avail themselves of God as “a very present help in trouble.” Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals. It is the open fount which cries, “Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters.”

Christian Science Hymnals

Hymn. 46

Day by day the manna fell: / O, to learn this lesson well. / Still by constant mercy fed, / Give me, Lord, my daily bread.

Day by day the promise reads, / Daily strength for daily needs: / Cast foreboding fears away; / Take the manna of today.

Lord, my times are in Thy hand: / All my sanguine hopes have planned, / To Thy wisdom I resign, / And would mold my will to Thine.

Thou my daily task shalt give; / Day by day to Thee I live; / So shall added years fulfill / Not my own, my Father’s will.

Words: Josiah Conder*

Music: Arr. from Louis M. Gottschalk

Hymn. 519

Lean on the sustaining infinite / And blessings will be yours. / Lean not on person, place, or thing, / Or economic laws; / But lean upon all-blessing God / Who will all needs supply / And give to all abundant good / That money cannot buy.

Let the healing reign of Truth and Life, / The reign of Love divine, / Be now established within me / To show Soul’s clear design / Of Oneness, indivisible— / Of God and me as one— / As water is to ocean wave, / As sunbeam is to sun.

Love with a heart of tenderness / Your enemies and friends; / However hard this may appear, / This quality just mends. / For Love is God in action true, / A presence that is felt; / A healing and a saving power / That will all discord melt.

So lean, and let, and love; / This is the balanced Way. / It’s free from self-will, pressure, stress; / It welcomes in God’s day. / The leaning is so gentle; / The letting is so free. / And loving is the only way / To think, and speak, and be.

Hymn. 556

Our Father knows my need today; / I do not merely ask / For happy hours or golden way, / Or loving, helpful task; / But, with all trust in Love, I pray: / Our Father knows my need today.

Our Father knows my need this hour; / Where’er my steps may go, / The saving light from Truth’s high tower / Now leads me—this I know. / Yours is the majesty and power, / O Love divine, this day—this hour.

Our Mother knows this moment’s need,— / My work, my prayer, my song, / The healing word and Christlike deed. / Here where the way seems long, / Truth’s manna falls and I am fed; / Love’s light shines clear and I am led.

Love sets the earth-bound captive free; / And, mindful of Her own, / With loving care God’s leading me. / When wandering and lone, / I find in Truth the living way: / Our Mother knows my need today.
